After months of preparation, Rail World is coming to Berlin this month for the flagship show of the rail show calendar

After months of preparation, Rail World is coming to Berlin this month for the flagship show of the rail show calendar: InnoTrans, from 20 to 23 September. Kevin Smith and Dan Templeton will walk you through some of the highlights.
Suppliers from all over the world will be in full swing, presenting a huge showcase of the latest innovations that will propel the rail industry forward in the coming years. In fact, like every two years, Messe Berlin reports that it expects a record-breaking 2016 with over 100,000 visitors and 2,940 exhibitors from 60 countries (200 of which will debut). Of these exhibitors, 60% came from outside Germany, reflecting the international importance of the event. Key railway executives and politicians are expected to visit the exhibition over the course of four days.
Navigating such a big event inevitably becomes a major challenge. But fear not, IRJ has done the hard work for you in previewing our heritage event and showcasing some of the most notable innovations to be featured in Berlin. We hope you enjoy this show!
Plasser and Theurer (Hall 26, Stand 222) will present a newly developed universal double sleeper tamping device for rails and turnouts. The 8×4 unit combines the flexibility of a versatile single-sleeper tamping unit in a split design with the increased performance of a two-sleeper tamping operation. The new unit can control the speed of the vibratory drive, saving time by increasing hardened ballast yield and reducing maintenance costs. External Plasser will show two vehicles: TIF Tunnel Inspection Vehicle (T8/45 Outer Track) and Unimat 09-32/4S Dynamic E (3^) with hybrid drive.
Railshine France (Hall 23a, Stand 708) will present its concept for a global railway station for depots and rolling stock workshops. The solution is based on a line of train supply solutions and includes a retractable rigid catenary, locomotive sand filling systems, exhaust gas removal systems and de-icing systems. It also includes a remote controlled and monitored gas station.
Frauscher’s highlight (Hall 25, Stand 232) is the Frauscher Tracking Solution (FTS), a wheel detection system and train tracking technology. The company will also showcase Frauscher’s new Alarm and Maintenance System (FAMS), which allows operators to monitor all Frauscher axle counter components at a glance.
Stadler (Hall 2.2, Stand 103) will present its EC250, which will be one of the stars of this year’s off-road booth. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) EC250 or Giruno high-speed trains will start serving passengers through the Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2019. Stadler received a CHF 970 million ($985.3 million) order for 29 11-car EC250s. In October 2014, the first completed buses will be exhibited at the T8/40 exhibition. Stadler said the train will introduce a new level of comfort for alpine passengers, with high performance in terms of acoustics and pressure protection. The train also features low-level boarding, allowing passengers to board and alight directly, including those with limited mobility, and includes a digital passenger information system that indicates available seats on the train. This low-floor design also influenced the body design, which required engineering creativity, especially in the entry area, and installation of subsystems due to the reduced space available under the train floor.
In addition, engineers had to take into account the unique challenges associated with crossing the 57 km Gotthard Base Tunnel, such as atmospheric pressure, high humidity and a temperature of 35°C. A pressurized cabin, air conditioning controls, and airflow around the pantograph are some of the changes made so that the train can run efficiently through the tunnel while the train is designed to continue running on its own power so it can be brought to the desired point. emergency stop in case of fire. While the first few passenger coaches will be on display in Berlin, testing of the first 11-car train will only begin in spring 2017 before being tested at the Rail Tec Arsenal plant in Vienna at the end of next year.
In addition to Giruno, Stadler will showcase several new trains on the outer track, including the Dutch Railways (NS) Flirt EMU (T9/40), the Variobahn tram and sleeping cars from Aarhus, Denmark (T4/15), Azerbaijan. Railways (ADDV) (T9/42).
