Homemade ways to protect catalytic converters from theft

BEVERTON, Oregon. (KPTV) — With catalytic converter theft on the rise, many drivers are struggling to secure their vehicles before they become victims.
You can buy expensive skid plates, take your car to a mechanic to weld cables or frames, or you can try to protect the catalytic converter yourself.
FOX 12 tried several different DIY methods and finally found one that only cost $30 and installed in less than an hour. Protection includes U-bolt vent clips and cold welded epoxy available from auto parts stores.
The idea is to put stainless steel clamps around the pipes at the front or back of the catalytic converter to make it harder for a thief to cut them off.
